CDC Party

I worked this weekend so Scott was in charge of the boys. Saturday night, the neighbors had their firepit going and we roasted marshmellows and the adults drank some beer. kids ran around with flashlights til 10pm. i came in early since i had to get ready for work on sunday morning. scott got ryan in pj's and then he wanted cartoons and a piece of bread. this is what happened shortly thereafter.......

Yep, sound asleep on the couch....with bread in his hand.

Monday evening there was a "good-bye" party at CDC. all the teachers were there and we were able to walk around one last time. kinda sad though b/c alot of the rooms were empty or toys/items were all boxed up. here is owen with his favorite teacher Katie! We loved katie....and yes, we have her phone number so she can babysit. Scott and i really need to take advantage of that. We don't get out enough and have couple time.

Ryan standing by the window in his preschool class. scottie said after he dropped ryan off in the mornings, he would always run to the window and wave goodbye. and yes, scott finally admitted to me that on some of those days, ryan had tears as he was waving goodbye.

Scott, ryan, and owen outside of CDC. Will be so sad to see it torn down!

And so one door closes yet another door opens. Tomorrow, the boys will go to their new daycare, little rascals, for a half day. it's a trial run so they can kinda get used to the new school...and so mommy can ease into it too! I will meet the teachers, drop owen off in his class (all he needs are some toys and he is good to go), then will go with ryan and sit with him in his class for a little bit. want to meet some of the kids and kinda know the routine so as he tries to tell me what he did or who he played with, i will kinda know. then i will leave and have some mommy time and run some errands before i pick them up at noon. thursday is there first full day of school. So i was busy tonight packing there bags. Ryan gets to take his new lightning mcqueen backpack, and i packed owen's diaper bag along with a little poster, telling owen's teachers a little bit about him. not trying to choose favorite here. ryan can tell his teachers what is wrong or if he needs something. trying to help owen out by telling his teachers a few things about him. oh, i hope the day goes well!

Last day at CDC

Very sad. Today was Ryan and Owen's last day at CDC (child development center). CDC is a daycare center run by St. Joseph Medical Center for its employees. It is a wonderul facility that has awesome teachers! It is located across the street from the hospital. It was so convienent to have the kids right across the street. If i needed to run over there on my lunch break, it was nice and close. The teachers who took care of the kids had been there forever. There was no question, i knew they were in good hands when Scott dropped them off.

..........previous paragraph deleted.......edited version per request of scott........you know me.....how i so want to say something but he says i should keep my mouth shut......... Special thanks to terry in infant one who took care of ryan when he was a baby and also owen. Miss Sandra and miss Amy in the two year old class. Loved loved loved ms kelly and ms quita in the older 2 year old class....you all pretty much potty trained ryan and taught him so many manners and how to use words when someone did something they didn't like. ryan loved going to big band day with the class. and ms katie current....i felt so good when you were watching owen. i knew he was in awesome hands. i never worried about him when you were down in infant one. thanks for watching him on his birthday too!

alright, off my soap box. had to vent. i told scott today that when one door closes, another door opens. the kids will be going to a daycare at 103rd and state line rd. i just pray that it all works out and that they enjoy it there. and that they learn as much as they did at CDC. to all the teachers, good luck in your future endeavors. Will miss CDC greatly!!!!!!

Good ole State Fair and Owen's 1st Bday Party

Friday night was adult time at the good ole state fair. it was nice that Scott and I got out and was able to spend some time with our friends. Was super excited to see Whitney! I heard she was in the wine tent. went down to try to find her but she had left. grabbed a glass of wine. keep in mind, i never drink. hummmm, one glass of wine was pretty good. glad i didn't see whitney in the tent b/c otherwise i would have sat down and had a few more and then would have been knocked on my butt! anyway, ran into whit at the bud tent....along with other friends. it was great to catch up.
Saturday we took the kids out to see the animals. Then it was on to the rides. It was Ryan's first year to actually get to ride them. He was pretty excited. We only let him ride 4. I know next year we will be riding alot more!!!

Then it was on to Saturday evening....Owen's birthday party. He was stylin in his plaid shorts although he blue shirt was too big so we had to just wear a white onesie. Mommy wasn't that prepared. Had a bbq with both grandparents and aunt/uncles.

Owen was so ready to go for his cake!

"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Owen. Happy birthday to you!"

Yep, he loved the whipped icing!!!

Then it was on to opening gifts. Ryan got a little too involved. Had to tell him to let Owen tear the packages open but Owen would never come near the gifts. He just walked around with one of his first gifts....a little bat. So Ryan got to open all the gifts.

And then came Sunday. Ryan was so ready to come home. I am so tired of all the whining this three year old does. In his defense, it was a long 5 days....daycare wed/thurs then home to grandparents fri/sat/sun. no naps and a ton of stuff going on. And you never sleep as well when you are not in your own bed. Ryan wanted to head home sunday morning so we packed up and came back up to the city. Once we got here, Owen wanted to go outside and play. Did i mention that he took his first steps last saturday but really started walking the day after his birthday. He walks everywhere now! He wanted to go outside so we went out to play in his little house. A ball was in the grass. He knows how to turn around and go down steps backwards. There is one small step from our patio to the grass. He started walking over to it and I could tell he was just going to try to walk off. I didn't want to say anything b/c i wanted him to learn that if you don't turn around, you will fall down. Sure enough he fell off the step and into some mud. It was kinda funny. We all saw it happen then saw Owen's face. Told scottie he had to get a picture of this!!! Too funny!!

happy 1st birthday Owen!

Happy 1st Birthday Owen
I can't believe you are 1. I worked today and was constantly looking up at the clock and would remember what i was doing extactly a year ago. Hey, let's go down memory lane....sorry to bore you all, but it will mean the world to me to look back at this in 10 years and help refresh my memory.
7 am-at st luke's south to be induced. Katherine, a coworker of mine also works at sls and is my labor nurse.
8:25am-after 5 attempts, iv is finally started. Pitocin is running and labs are drawn so i can get my epidural!
9:05-Katherine suggests i get my epidural. tell her i think i can wait...not even feeling the contractions....but she encourages me to so we page anes.
9:15-doc breaks water
9:30-epidural is placed and don't feel a thing! think i only felt 3 contractions the whole time i was in "labor."
9:30-11:15-take a little nap, chat with katherine, scott works on his laptop, we all watch the olympics (swimming), read the newspaper. again, feel nothing. kinda feel like i am cheating this whole labor thing.
11:20-Katherine goes into the OR where my doc is doing a c sec and tells him to speed it up b/c she thinks i am getting close.
11:55-Katherine goes back to OR and tells doc to hurry it up. I could not feel pressure but katherine had a feeling i was fully dilated. my bladder was filling. kinda funny, could see my baby bump but then could also see my bladder! katherine said my bladder was holding the baby in, ha ha.
12:10-doc finally makes it to my room, checks me, and baby's head is almost out!
12:15 first push
12:20 second push
12:21.....It's a boy!!!! they put owen on my chest. my neonatal resuscitation kicks in and and i start rubbing him down, trying to make him cry. i remember saying how little he was....6lbs 13 oz. he was perfect.
12:21-8pm legs still numb. could not get out of bed on my own til almost 8pm. that's ok. couldn't feel any contractions or the whole birthing process so i was fine with that. epidurals are my best friend!!!

Now that i have completely bored everyone to death, here is owen and mommy before he went to bed tonight. First night i put him to bed as a one year old!

Oh, and Owen thinks he is big b/c he knows what to do with a toothbrush...put it under the water then put it in mommy's mouth to brush her teeth. the boy climbs up on the stool in daddy's bathroom and loves to put ryan's tooth brush under the water. just goes to show how much he loves watching his brother do things! let's hope he doesn't pick up on all the fits that ryan throws!

Ryan's first swim lesson and mommy in mourning.

First off, i have to say that i feel that i am in some sort of mourning stage. my little baby will turn 1 tomorrow and i just don't want it to happen. maybe it's b/c scott says we are only having two kids so i know this will be the last time we experience a "1st birthday" and i will no longer experience anything baby. Yes, i am sitting in front of the tv right now watch dvd's of when i was pregnant and when i was in the hospital with owen. sad sad. take a deep breath, sara. it will be ok. i have to work tomorrow (why take the day off when owen doesn't even realize it's his birthday...i am the only one having a hard time with it so the more i keep busy the better) but owen and i had some good cuddle time tonight!

Alright, tonight was Ryan's first time taking swim lessons. so, it didn't go as well as planned. ryan had a few crying episode while in the water but towards the end, he was doing pretty well. the teacher told me he would do better in private lessons. hummmm, guess that means we flunked. she said he just does better one on one. i got in the water with him right after the class. we practiced jumping in and getting our face wet. the teachers saw what all he could do. think scott is still going to take him next week just to see how he did. gotta give the guy a second chance. he was forced into the water today with two strangers so let's at least give him a second chance!!!

yesterday we moved ryan up to a britax frontier carseat/booster seat and moved owen to the britax decathlon. he looks pretty good in his big boy carseat. still only 19 pounds so we gotta stay rear-facing for a while.

And last night, the boys played baseball. Owen know all about picking up a bat and hitting the ball. he loves to do what daddy and ryan are doing!!!

It's official...Owen has taken his first steps!

Today was the day. Owen took his first steps in front of Scott, Ryan and I. This morning, we were in by the kitchen table and Owen stood up. Scott and I encouraged him to come to us and he took three steps. We were so excited! Ryan took his first steps for uncle Matt and Scott and I both missed out. Thank you Owen for waiting til Saturday so mommy and daddy could be there! He also showed grandma cathy and took another three steps then took about 5-6 steps later in the evening for Ryan and I. Walking is not yet his prefered method of movement. I'll give him less than a week and i bet he will be walking all over the place. Until then, he just takes his little walking toy and walks all over the house.

In other news, we painted our kitchen cabinets. they just needed a fresh coat of white paint. worked like crazy today but we got it done. now we can kick back and relax. maybe hit the pool tomorrow.

4 more days til Owen turns 1!!!!
