Owen playing inside a tupperware clothes container....silly boy!
Ryan's silly face!
Friday evening, Scott drove the boys to Sedalia and Saturday, we were off to sunny Phoenix. We attended the SF Giants and AZ Diamondbacks game. It was sunny and warm...could not have asked for a better day! Checked into the hotel then off to dinner. No kids to take care of so that means i could drink. i enjoyed this.....

two strawberry coolers! strawberry puree, rum, and a few other things. they were delicous! Here's scottie and matt
Yes, enjoyed the coolers....maybe a little too much. didn't pass out but combine two drinks and a long day of travel and you get this......
The boys went off to find some batting cages. So Sunday was to be the day of watching Royals. But thank you mother nature for changing out plans. The game was canceled. Instead, we ventured to a few shopping malls and did this

Sunday night we had dinner with one of my cousins. so great to see john and have a nice dinner. thanks john and cindy!!
So monday morning we had to check out of the hotel. it was rainy outside and we totally thought this vacation was a flop. were we really going to get to see any royals games? thought i better take a pic of scott and i in our royals gear in case today's game got rained out!
We traveled to surprise and the gates were open!!!!
For those of you who have never gotten to experience spring training, royals have six fields that the entire squad (majors and minors) practice on. the gates open to the public at 10am so you can watch the players practice. i am not a big baseball fan but i do have to say, it is pretty cool to be so close to them and hear people like George Brett and Frank White giving the players pointers or throwing balls to the players.
here is a little bit of the leftover rain from yesterday....as you can tell, AZ is not used to alot of rain....they don't have good drainage systems!
Once we got there, we realized that the royals and rangers were having a little "mini game." guess they were making up sunday's game. i tried to take a picture to show how the players just play and people can sit on the small bleachers that are set up or stand along the fence.
visitors can't pass the little white fence but you can go up and try to get players autographs. i should have zoomed in but the royals player to the very far right is zack greinke....2009 cy young winner!
Scott made his way over there, quietly, and got an autograph. i made my way tooo....just wanted my picture taken with him, but he saw people coming so he quickly left. as most of you know, he has social anxiety and doesn't like to be in large crowds. Scottie was a good older brother and gave his autographed ball to Matt.
Here is scott and matt watching the royals practice.
After lunch, we were off to Goodyear, to the Red's ball field to watch royals play the reds. the stadiums are much smaller so you are up close to the guys and can watch them stretch, chat, joke around, sign autographs....here's a pic of david dejuses chatting with the guys.
Dayton Moore, the GM, came down the aisle to chat iwth the manager, Trey Hillman. it's just so weird to see them standing right by you, chatting about players and stategies, knowing the decisions they make now, will decide who is in the majors and who goes to the minors.
Dayton decided to sit in the row in front of us and watch some of the game. at one time, i saw him pull his stop watch out start timing the pitchers.
And here is billy butler on 1st.
Yes, the sun did actually come out. Scott and I enjoyed watching the game.
And there is George Brett, down in the dugout. Scott always loves seeing his childhood hero down in AZ. He is more visible there than he is up here in KC.
After the 6th inning, they take all major leaguers out and put in the minor leaguers so we left the stadium. loved to see all the mountains. the desert was so green since they have had so much rain. was so disappointed that i wasn't able to hike, due to the rain.
Found out my mom got sick over the weekend, while watching the boys so we were going to try to catch an earlier flight but when we called SWA, they said all flights were booked. so, where else do you head to but.......Mill Ave in downtown tempe. surprised to see many of the stores and places to eat have closed. guess the economy got em.
Off to the airport. I got sick. Came so close to throwing up several times....right at take off. how in the hell i was able to NOT throw up is beyond me. God was watching over me. he knew i wanted to get back to my boys!!! We got in at 11:30pm and hit the bed. so good to be back home and in our own bed!
Yes, we considered this a total flop of a vacation. Have never seen so much rain in AZ the whole 6 years that we have been going down to spring training. But getting Zack's autograph made it all worth it. Well, good bye AZ.....see you next year.
The kids were excited to see us this morning when they woke up. Owen esp liked playing with the legos that we brought back for he and ryan.
